A two-year-old Ukrainian refugee receives lifesaving surgery

June 11th, 2022

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th, the day this young tyke was to receive heart surgery in Kyiv at no charge to his family. Mom, Dad and son were driving to the hospital when the tanks passed them, and the war started. Needless to say, surgery was postponed. Victoria and her young son fled Kyiv within days and became refugees in Romania. Jamie and I met Victoria one day at Refuse to Quit's food and clothing donation center. She was looking for summer clothing for her son. While digging through clothing boxes, she told us about her son's need for lifesaving heart surgery.

We are thrilled to announce that on June 11th, he had a successful surgery and is doing great! Nataliya is truly a superstar! Through her contacts, she arranged to have a London surgeon fly to Bucharest and perform this surgery as well as other needed heart surgeries on other children, all at no charge.

This morning, we received a What's App message from Victoria. She said our meeting was a miracle and she is grateful with all her soul for her son's health. We are beyond happy and thankful that Nataliya was our guide and for the contacts she has in the Ukraine and Europe.
